Things to Do in Shakopee, MN

Romantic- Paisley Park

Even if you’re only a passing fan of pop music, you’ve likely heard of Prince, the legendary singer. Prince was a legend with pop hits throughout the 80s and into the 2000s. Sadly, Prince is gone, but his legend lives on at Paisley Park just outside Shakopee in Chanhassen, MN. Today, fans of the late pop and rock star can tour Prince’s incredible private estate. There you’ll find unique artifacts from the singer’s life, in the place where he wrote most of his biggest hits. From Prince’s favorite instruments to his lavish wardrobe, motorcycle collection, and more, you’ll get an inside view of his life. Our recommendation; if you genuinely, deeply love The Purple One, get the Ultimate Experience package. It’s 3 hours of all the Prince paraphernalia you could ever want to see!

Grown-Up Fun –  Shakopee Brewhall

If quaffing craft beer in a rustic and romantic brew hall is what you seek, Shakopee Brewhall is the place. There are a lot of reasons to love this Brew Hall. First off, it’s in Shakopee’s historic district, one of the most popular spots in town. Second is the inviting atmosphere, which comes from the 1890’s bricks cast in the city’s original foundry! (The industrial chic décor is also a hoot!) The best reason to love this electric and eclectic place, though, is simple; the fantastic beer. Ever-changing, Shakopee Brewhall typically always has nine flavors on tap. We recommend the Nutty Mad, a superb American brown ale, but don’t let that stop you from trying everything! Shakopee Brewhouse gets our vote for the most fun thing to do in Shakopee, MN, for the grown-ups!

Historic Thrills- Wings of the North Air Museum

For many, the dream of flying high above the clouds is incredibly romantic and exciting. If you’re one of those people, the Wings of the North Air Museum is a must-see! About 20 minutes northeast of Shakopee’s downtown, their collection of restored aircraft is impressive and remarkably deep. That includes a P-51D Mustang flown in World War II, three massive airliners, and a  WWII Ford Jeep. The cream of their collection? That’s the replicas of the Spirit of St. Louis and the Wright Brothers’ plane! Even an aircraft flown by former President George Bush Senior, a Boeing N25-1 Stearman, is on display. If flying, or at least the thought of it, gets your adrenaline flowing, don’t miss this fantastic museum!

Exciting- Canterbury Park

Folks from all over the Minneapolis metro area visit Canterbury Park. It’s the area’s premier casino and horse racing track and is, in a word, fantastic! If you’ve never seen thoroughbred or quarter horse racing, get ready to be blown away! There’s nothing like the thrill of watching these incredible beasts race and feeling the thunder of their hooves!  Canterbury Park’s Casino is just as exciting, with the largest selection of table games in Minneapolis! From EZ Baccarat to Black Jack, Texas Hold’em, and 7-Card Stud. If heart-pounding excitement is something you and your crew are looking for, Canterbury Park has it in spades!

The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is breathtaking, with a combination of woods, prairies, and tree collections. They host ongoing exhibits throughout the year, and the Arboretum Café serves outstanding food when folks get hungry. We highly recommend you see the Bee and Pollination Center while you’re there. These industrious and invaluable insects are the key to our future, and the display is fascinating. For those who can’t get around too well on foot, the Arboretum also offers their Trumpet Creeper Tram. If you can walk, though, the trails are gorgeous and a true delight.
